Physical Description Cassandra Valerie Butterfield is a human female in her early 30s. Standing at attention, her 5 feet, 8 inches put her just taller than the average human female, but shorter than most of her male counterparts.
Having spent more than the last decade keeping up with a rigorous, daily, Starfleet security physical work out and training regimen, “Cass” has the appearance of a track-and-field athlete – or perhaps a ballerina.
She has light brown, wavy hair that she wears twisted back along the sides of her head towards the nape of her neck, where it’s gathered into a ponytail which is just long enough to brush the bottom of her shoulder blades. (Any of Cassandra‘s former colleagues on the USS Voyager would immediately recognize the way she wears her hair as a reverent imitation of one of the styles perfected by Voyager’s Captain during their time the Delta quadrant)
Cassandra is particularly pale - her Anglo-Norwegian skin shows clear evidence of her 7 years in only artificial sunlight, among grey, Starfleet issue bulkheads aboard the USS Voyager.
Still, she manages to project a sense of poise. Her movements are fluid, with an undercurrent of strength.
She’s clearly comfortable in her body- not because she can deliver brutally forceful blows, but because she clearly has a comfort with and knowledge of her physical abilities and limits.

During her Academy days, and starting out in Security, Cassandra was frequently - wrongly - seen as “fragile” because she has small, almost child sized, dainty feet that are clearly not proportional to her height. Coupled with her fair skin, long hair, and evenly muscled body (no bulging ‘guns’ here), a quick glance at her physical form, (particularly should they miss the fluidity of her movements, or how quickly her eyes scan and assess every detail in a location) may still fool some into “false security” around her

Personality & Traits

General Overview Cassandra served aboard voyager for seven years under commander Tuvok. She’s had to learn to exhibit calm leadership, yet execute strategic choices in all manner of previously unimaginable situations.

Since Voyager, Cassandra is more capable, confident, and innovative than at her previous postings. She’s also just a bit more likely to “go a bit extra” than your average Starfleet Headquarters worker-bee - for good or ill- she may speak up more often, catch something from a different angle that would otherwise have been missed, or add seemingly redundant precautions that come in handy last minute...or are just enough too much to crash the system
Strengths & Weaknesses Cassandra does not understand the Dominion war. She was in the Delta quadrant (the only quadrant unaffected by this war) when it took place, and as such may be somewhat insensitive to people who fought in, or were victims of this war.
Ambitions She is devoted to the family business of “Starfleet Security”
Hobbies & Interests Anything in the light of earth’s actual sun and/or on the real, live grass - jogging, swimming, visiting Boothby in the gardens at Starfleet Academy, laying in the grass and pinching it in her fingers, playing “fetch” with her Great Dane puppy

Personal History Cassandra was born near San Francisco to Ron and Valerie Butterfield. She attended school in the San Francisco Bay area and looked up to her older sister Gina. Ron and Valerie Butterfield met while working in the securities department at Starfleet where Ron is a high-level security officer, and Valerie works on developing tactical munitions. Gina is also a Starfleet officer and security chief on board a starship that participated in the Dominion war. Mr. Butterfield was born in the north of Scotland, and immigrated to San Francisco as a youth to join Starfleet. Mrs. Butterfield comes from a line of Scandinavians who immigrated to the North American continent several generations ago. When Cassandra was a child, until about age 14, She rebelled against the family’s will for her to continue their work in the Security field and threw her heart and soul into studying linguistics -on the idea that she might grow up to be a diplomat and mediate first contact situations.
She gave up on this rebellious way of thinking and entered Starfleet around age 17, where she Received decent grades, but did not stand out either physically or intellectually in the top percentage of her peers.
In her first year at Starfleet Academy Cassandra had a romantic relationship with a bajoran female. The relationship ended with confusion and abuse, and Cass was sent to Scotland for a few months to recover before returning to school. Later, Cassandra had a long-term relationship with a human male whom she believed she would marry. However, she ultimately had to end the relationship when he became insistent that she give up her career completely in favor of his.
While on Voyager, Cass consciously chose not to get into any romantic entanglements, considering that things could get “very messy, and possibly extremely ugly” if something turned out poorly between the parties, but “they were stuck together inside a tin-can for 70 years”.
Since returning to earth, Cass has put her emotional energy into renewing her relationships with her family, caring for her dog “Cabo”, and having a healthy working relationship with her duty partner, Simon Donovan, and her superiors at Starfleet Command.
She still keeps in touch with every member of Voyager’s Security team, and tracks the lives of her other former Voyager crew mates closely - frequently meeting up for tea/coffee with any who pass through town.
Starfleet or Civil Service Record Upon graduation from the Academy, Cassandra was stationed as a security officer aboard a ship hosting a Federation conference among several member species.

She next served as security at a much larger conference for Starfleet, hosting both Federation member and nonmember species on issues of trade, interstellar aid, border disputes, etc.

In the year 2371 Cassandra was assigned to the security staff on the brand-new, intrepid class starship USS Voyager under the command of Captain Kathryn Janeway. Their 3 week mission was to locate and capture a Maquis rebel Ship on which Starfleet Officer Lieutenant Commander Tuvok was serving as a spy.

Starfleet declared Cassandra and the USS Voyager “lost/destroyed” in “The Badlands” nebula by 2373.

In fact, Cassandra and the crew of Voyager, as well as the crew of the Maquis vessel (The Val Jean) had been spirited away to the Delta Quadrant by an entity during that mission in 2371, and were traveling “homeward” ever since.

In the Delta Quadrant, Cassandra served as a member of the secretary detail under Cmdr Tuvok. She also participated in away missions, first contacts, and several tactical battles.

Aboard the Intrepid class vessel, “Cass” reported for duty on the bridge where she manned the “aft station” assigned as “Security/Tactical/Science” - this experience gave her an opportunity to work with/among the ship’s top staff, to work on Voyager’s unique technical needs, to be a witness to Her scientific discoveries, and to be a part of seeking out new life and new civilizations that The Voyager, boldly, carried out on a daily basis for 7 years.

In 2376, through the efforts of the Pathfinder Project, Starfleet -and Cassandra’s family- learned that she, several of the Maquis, and many of the rest of the Voyager crew were, in fact, alive and trying to make their way back to the Alpha Quadrant.
From 2376 onward, both Starfleet and Cass’s family received regular updates from Voyager, and sent messages back in return.

Cassandra returned with the USS Voyager to Earth in 2378. She requested a transfer to a post on earth. Her parents wanted her to come “home”, and Cassandra was eager to get off of starships with their constant artificial sunlight!
She was granted a position on the Security Team for the (then, Deputy) C-in-C of Starfleet. Her duty partner is Lt. Cmdr Simon Donovan. She meets him for tea/coffee to go over the previous shift’s reports before their duty shift every day, and she has been happy working for Admiral Sturnack.
